2025 - 26 was not the kindest year for dryland cotton. For the Boardman family this crop was improvement on the previous crop of more than almost 2 bales per ha. This year's planting date was 6 days later on the 1st of December compared to the previous year. For 2025 - 26 due to the lack of rain and January heat the later plantings of dryland cotton were the most successful. This meant the crop could find the water it needed to develop lint while surviving better than a crop that was boll filling during a heat wave. Harvest occurred 5mths later to the day. The crop was removed using strippers with yields around 5 bales a ha on 137mm of in crop rain. With the exception of a couple bales for hi mic all the bales harvested in the trial were all basis grade and better. This was the first year that CSX1257 B3XF has been grown in a dryland situation. It maintained its inherent natural length better than its competitors. Have we found a possible third dryland variety to spread grower's risks, we will continue to look at CSX 1257 B3XF going forward. Farm manager Sam Hotchin and Farm Agronomist Jack Williamson like using a liquid Phos at applied at planting. They then during boll fill used a foliar applied a potassium acetate foliar product which helps with re addressing an imbalance for k not being available in dry soils as the profile becomes depleted.
