This trial was designed with a number of aspects in mind. One of these was to look at how various cultivars would perform by challenging some of the current farming systems where water is limited under modern overhead irrigation practises. As part of this some of the emphasis was to see how CSD's Okra type Siokra 253 B3XF would perform beyond just thinking about yield. The crop was planted dry then watered up on the 4th of November. It was planted later than maybe typical for this district which can put pressure on when the last effective flowering date occurs. There was 1448-day degrees using the DD1532 Calculator from imbidement to first defoliation. This is 41-day degrees higher than the 10-year average for that period. We recorded 190mm of in crop rain. Being warmer the crop emerged and established quickly. Evidence of the prior corn crops assisted with protecting the area between the rows for a period of time. I did not see any wireworm cause any economic damage. The whole circle is planted single skip. 'Getta Getta" Farm Manager Bob Hilton has been able to supply enough water from various sources. We deployed inside the variety trial both canopy temperature sensors and moisture probes for each variety. This is yet to be analysed. Overall, the crop did not lose potential to boll rots that were impactful. The site demonstrated that high commercial yields can be obtained from planting single skip where the bales generated per ha for the MG's applied are considerable. Visually the disease pressure for the year we had overall had little impact on the final outcome.
